Solid Performer
When searching for a new mp3 player the trail always leads me back to Sony. Its more about overall quality then brand loyalty. Over the years Sony’s Walkman line has gone the distance and more. The all new Sony S Series Walkman adds to the legacy.

The S-545 16gb Walkman brings it on with a crisp, color enhanced 2.4″ LCD screen that is easy on the eyes. At 2″ x 4″ x .4″, it comes in a bit larger then its older cousin. A larger body undoubtedly is required to provide support for the external speaker system. The speakers won’t get confused with my home system anytime soon but they do provide an excellent source. With headphones on, this mp3 player delivers a cornucopia of sound. Missing but not that noticeable is the noise reduction feature. The on board equalizer can be tweaked to one’s own preferences or users can choose one of the six presets.

The Navigation pad located directly under the screen is a breeze to operate. Three controls are located on the right side of the unit. One locks in the controls. The second one allows for easy switching from speaker to headset. Volume is the third control. The standard headphone jack and a USB port can be found on the bottom of the unit. The detachable flip out stand is an okay feature that allows for easy standing on my desk or shelf top. I would have preferred that it was permanently mounted.

The S-545 supports mp3, mp4, AAC, AVC, WMV, WMA, and PCM. PCM is Sony’s version of WAV. It pairs well with Napster To Go. Its hit and miss with Rhapsody To Go. Sometimes its a smooth transfer, other times its not. Downloading my playlists from Windows Media Player was a breeze without the usual hiccups associated with older mp3 players.

Amazon video is a new option that is also supported. Video can be synced from my computer as well. I’ve never been big on downloading video to my player. I did download a couple of photographs on this model. The display was outstanding. Unlike my older Walkman, this model doesn’t offer the wallpaper photo display option.

The built in FM tuner picked up all ten of my stations. With auto scanner functionality, thirty preset slots are available. The FM radio is crystal clear when using the headset as an antenna. The alarm and timer features are a nice add on. This model also has an impressive on board microphone located on the bottom of the unit. There are three voice settings. Voice playback quality was excellent. Battery life has always been biggie with Sony. On a full charge, I got almost a full thirty five hours of music.

The Sony Walkman S-545 16gb Mp3 player comes packed with a USB cable, flip stand, ear buds, installed operating manual and the standard one year warranty. Body finishes include; black and red in the 16GB model. Pink and violet are additional choices in the 8GB model.

Economically priced, this latest edition to the Walkman line is a durable and reliable product that delivers. Easy to use and loaded with features, the Sony S-545 is a prime time performer.

Best MP3
Great sounding and easy to use MP3 I have owned. I have had a Philips GoGear (froze and had to format all the time) a creative Zen (stopped working after 6 months) and a Zune 120 GB (great storage but not the best sounding MP3, plus a little to bulky when jogging). This is the easiest MP3 to use and the sound is great. For people who exercise, especially joggers, this is the perfect size and at 16GB holds quite alot of music. The screen size is only 2.4 but is very clear and once you use the transfer feature that comes with the player is easy to transfer photos and videos.

The speakers won’t blow you away, but I got it for when I work outside in the garden and didn’t want to haul out my speakers to plug in. Plus, when I am at work I can use it at the lunch table and not be rude when people sit with me and cannot listen to music. They do sound pretty good for the size, just an extra bonus on the player.

Last, a great price for an 16GB

Why I like (but not love) my Sony…
I’m not exactly an mp3 player expert, so maybe I have unrealistic expectations. I really like (but not love…) this mp3 player, but there are a few things that I would have done differently if I had been the designer.

Video: This is advertised as being video capable (very nice screen), but I was surprised that this didn’t play .wmv files. They play on Windows Media Player (and every other player I know of - Nero - Winamp), but not on the Sony. I thought .wmv was very popular, and am surprised that it can’t play them.

Fast Forward: when you push and hold the “forward” button, it slowly “fast forwards” through the song 4 seconds at a time. It would be nice if after a few seconds, it kicked in the “turbo” and really zoomed through the file at a quicker rate - maybe 10 or 15 seconds at a time or something. If you want to fast-forward 40 minutes into an hour-long mp3 file (ie: radio program on mp3), you’re going to be there for a long time while it slowly pokes through at 4 second intervals.

Playlists: you can’t create a playlist on this mp3 player, which seems kinda odd to me. You have to do it via Windows Media Player 11, and then import it. I’m not familiar with how other mp3 players do it, but it would be nice to make playlists independently without having to be hooked up to Windows Media Player 11.

Screen: I was disappointed at how fast the screen scratches. Don’t put it in the same pocket as your keys (or even a plastic thumb drive), or you’ll be sorry. (I also have an old Creative Muvo that was as durable as a watch crystal. I expected this to be a bit more scratch resistant.) They sell little screen protectors, but I didn’t know about this until AFTER my screen got scratched. If you buy this, get screen protectors before you use it!

Clock: I think it’s great that this has a clock, alarm, and sleep timer! What neat features! And it’s a cool looking clock which includes date as well. I wish the clock would display somewhere on the screen along with the song info - not just when the “clock” menu item is selected. Not a biggie - just a preference.

By the way, being able to wake up via a pre-selected .mp3 file is one of my favorite features. I use it for waking up to Bible reading or Rosary or verses that I’m trying to memorize (that I’ve “read into” the Sony using the voice recorder). What a great feature, and a great way to start the day!

“Folder”: Here’s a big issue for me - The “arrange by folder” doesn’t work like I expected it to. I have an mp3 Bible on my computer, and using Windows Explorer (not media player), I organized each book of the Bible into it’s own folder (ie: Genesis, Exodus…). Yet, when I moved these folders over to the Sony, and browse by “folder” - they do NOT appear under their “folder” name (ie: Genesis), but on the “contributing artist” or something like that. The Sony somehow thinks that it belongs in a folder labeled “Eric Martin” (the name of the narrator.) It looks like I need to go into Windows Media Player and re-arrange “folders” through that application. That’s gonna be a big job. It seems to have totally ignored my “organization” via Windows Explorer.

Windows Media Player: I use Windows Media player, but am not a guru, so I was disappointed to see this Sony relying so heavily on it (folder organization, as well as playlists). Now I need to figure out Windows Media Player in order for my Sony to work properly.

One more nitpick - maybe I’m being too critical, but I think the volume control is too small hard to use. I would have made separate “up” and “down” buttons, and made them a bit bigger. My old Creative Muvo has 2 large, easy-to-use buttons, and it is much smaller than the Sony. The Sony has room for bigger buttons - why didn’t they make them bigger?

Other than that - I really appreciate the long battery life, the beautiful (albeit scratched) screen, the speakers, the “alarm clock” feature, etc. etc. etc. This has a LOT of really nice features. Overall, I really like it, but thought a critical review might be more helpful for future purchasers. From what I saw, this is one of the best values (with the best features) for the money.

Simple and perfect
This case has exactly what I was looking for…a slim profile…easy to hold…folds back effortlessly for one-handed reading…no straps to deal with when actually reading your Kindle. The green color is brighter than this picture shows. It is an asparagus colored green..It looks nice sitting around in my home. It also stands out so that it is easy to find, as well as being the color of nature…my favorite aspect of this color!Between the hinge system and straps, the Kindle 2 is very secure! High quality,luxurious to the touch,felt cushioning in the interior. There is no contrast stitching on the outside. The stitching is Jade Green. No space for the Eluminator book light. This cover can damage your Kindle!
I don’t normally write reviews, but I felt like I must for this product. I bought this cover back in July when I got my Kindle. The connection points that attach the cover to the Kindle are easy to attach, but once they are in, I couldn’t see how to ever take the cover back off. That was no big deal, since I didn’t have a need to remove the cover. It looks nice and did the job.

Unfortunately, over the last month the top of the case of my Kindle has cracked over the spot where the top attachment point fits into the Kindle. Apparently the connector puts stress on the Kindle case from the inside, and over time this stress has caused the case of the Kindle to crack. Every time I use it the damage seems to increase. I don’t think I have done anything non-standard in attaching or using the cover, and it hasn’t been removed since I originally installed it, so it isn’t because of the stress of attaching and detaching the cover over and over.

I haven’t contacted Amazon about this yet, so I don’t know if they will do anything about it, but I wouldn’t recommend that anyone take a chance with this product.

Perfect!
The item is just as described. A slim real leather cover with no straps except for the inside flap on the right side corners. The Kindle is locked in place snapping it into the little prongs. I love the color! I would describe it as a dark granny smith. It is the perfect accessory for my Kindle 2 and much more stylish then the black Amazon cover that costs exactly the same.

Great Mouse with a TINY USB receiver!
This mouse is awesome! Please see my similar review for the silver one, with different details.

Got the silver one for my wife to match her new Dell Laptop. Vista recognized it immediately! She has used it as a hand held ‘clicker’ for advancing some PowerPoint persentations she gave. The left button advanced the slides and the wheel allowed her to scroll back or forward in the presentation (without having it on a tabletop).

I got the black one for use with my laptop, XP recognized it immediately. I have used this now for about a month, couple hours every day. There is a small button on the bottom to ‘turn off the mouse’ next to the button is a green led which will slowly fade out when it is turned off. The green LED on the top will light up as soon as my laptop boots up and it senses the wireless connection. When the PC goes to sleep, so does the mouse! As soon as the PC wakes up, the mouse comes back to life.

We are both very satisfied with this mouse and HIGHLY recommend it to others.

Truely Stellar
I use my macbook heavily at work and I bought the V450 because I wanted a way to prevent excessive trackpad wear and to navigate a little more effectively than a trackpad allows. The mouse rocks. It feels solid in my hands, tracks wonderfully even over the wrinkles in the sheets on my bed, and has had no WIFI interference to date. It’s not too big that you can’t take it traveling and yet it’s not so small that usage is difficult. Really, it’s the perfect size. The micro transmitter thingy is really a brilliant invention, and it was equally innovative to make the mouse hibernate when it senses that you’ve stowed the transmitter within the battery compartment. Also, the scroll wheel’s three clicking functions work great with exposé on my mac.

Cons: I wish Logitech had made the scroll wheel a little more robust feeling. It’s satisfactory, but it feels a little cheepy when you scroll (the model up from the V450 fixes this but Logitech should really put the nicer wheel on all their mice). The side to side click functions of the scroll wheel work nicely but the wheel’s downward click function feels very stiff. Still, it’s a super great mouse and I don’t regret the purchase in the least.

Nice, but consider the VX
The V450 Nano is a nice mouse, but please consider the Logitech VX Nano Cordless Laser Mouse for Notebooks even though it costs a few dollars more.

In addition to everything the V450 Nano does, the VX adds:

Hyperfast scrolling. Once I started using it, click scrolling felt like stepping back to the dark ages. If it turns out that you don’t like hyperfast scrolling, the VX Nano has click scrolling, too.

Programmable buttons. I feel disoriented when I use a mouse without them. For example, I use Firefox as my browser and often have many tabs open at once. I have the button behind the scroll wheel programmed to generate a Ctrl-W, which closes the current tab without having to move to the keyboard or click on the white X in the red box.

Photo inaccurate, not an Apple product, but it works
The photo shows an Apple-branded OEM cable, but the actual item is not. There are similarities, but when compared side by side with an Apple cable the differences are obvious. Still, it has been working just fine so far, no problems. I’m using it with a 30 GB Video iPod. It’s a slightly tighter fit on the iPod dock end than the original cable and I have to push harder for it to fit correctly, but once connected it works fine.

This is OEM
Though it is hard to tell whether this cable is fake or an OEM,
its performance and looks makes it one.

I didn’t want to pay a lot of money to buy OEM cable from apple’s store so I looked long and hard for a GOOD alternative on Amazon.
This was the closest to the OEM I could find.
It was cheap so I thought I might as well take a risk and buy it.
I do not regret this decision at all.
It IS an OEM.

The wall charger works well and the retractable, coiling USB cable is very good idea. It feels cheap though, what do you expect for the price?

I did not bother to return since its not worth my time, aggravation and shipping fee.

intel ssd - the best upgrade you can do to your laptop or desktop
I also have a G1 version of this drive and it’s literally life-changing (I use the SSD drive in my work laptop). It’s amazingly fast!!! If you notice your laptop or desktop to be accessing your harddisk a lot of time then you will see tremendous speed performance with this drive. It’s the best performance upgrade you can have in your laptop.

In terms of the drive’s life expectancy, the main factor is the amount of writes you do to the drive. On a normal daily-laptop-work usage then the drive will last >15 years. You can actually calculate this since the number of write cycles is tracked in the drive via the S.M.A.R.T attributes. So you can calculate when the drive will gonna die. Intel did a wonderful job in write amplification and wear-levelling algorithm. Thus, it will be obsolete before it reaches the maximum rated write cycles.

Blazing fast
Let’s get this out of the way first - this is not about capacity. Most everyone knows a 500GB 2.5″ 7200RPM notebook hard drive can be had for less than half the price of this SSD. I swapped out this very 500GB 2.5″ hard drive for this Intel 80GB SSD. Make sure you buy the G2 version which has TRIM support (enabled with firmware update from Intel) with no worries in performance degradation.

With this SSD, my laptop feels more responsive than my Intel Core i7 *desktop* computer. Windows 7 cold boots in about 35 seconds (from after BIOS POST to wifi ready and web browser open, with anti-virus and firewall installed). The hard drive is the highest rated component in my laptop - 6 for the CPU (Core 2 Duo P8600 2.4GHz), *7.8* for the hard drive (7.9 is the maximum score in Windows 7). Not just in actual use, installing Windows and other programs is also much faster. I have never seen programs install so fast before - Windows 7 Ultimate x64 installed in about 10 minutes from a USB drive.

If you’re shopping for a new laptop, forget the very expensive CPU upgrades for an extra few hundred MHz which you probably can’t appreciate in everyday use. Stick with the base CPU (Core 2 Duo preferably), spend that money on this SSD. The speed increase with this SSD will be much more dramatic than having an extra few hundred megahertz.

Fantastic performance improvement
This review is for the product itself, not about stock or sellers!

This is a fantastic upgrade to a computer system. The Intel G2 drives support TRIM when upgraded with the latest firmware. Windows 7 automatically support TRIM. TRIM increases the drive’s performance and efficiency.

Upgrading from an HD to a good SSD like an Intel SSD will result in a SIGNIFICANT performance improvement unlike make other upgrades you may make, like a bump in CPU performance, memory, or video card. An SSD is many times faster than an HD in many important ways and has a big impact on the responsiveness of a computer.

The Intel is even price competitive with other SSD offerings.

The X25-M is a SATA II hard drive with a capacity of 80 GB. Additionally, it’s in a 2.5-inch form factor that will work anywhere a regular 2.5-inch hard drive does, such as in notebook computers and external enclosures.

Works as advertised, best deal on iPod accessory
I bought it when the price was $4.95 (plus $6.00 s&h). It was still 1/3 less than Apple’s charger. I have used it for about 6 months without any problems at all. I have not timed it, but it seems to charge my Nano (1G) in about 2-3 hours or less. I am not sure if this works with Nano 2G and Video iPod 5G, but at $0.97, you can buy one and if it doesn’t work, give it to a friend who has an older iPod. I plan on buying another just to have a second. Great buy.

Very handy
I travel constantly for work, so bought a few of these - one to live in the suitcase, one to have in the office, and a couple of spares. In the office, I don’t have iTunes on my computer, so I can use the charger to play my iPod all day long over the folding travel speaker setup that I have and then still be able to use the iPod for the commute home & back to work. Great - would highly recommend!

It works
It works just as good as the expensive Apple one. If you are getting the composite video cables Apple includes one of these with the cables so don’t buy this if you are getting the cables from Apple.

Works as it should
Bought this for the car parked outside. Programming was piece of cake, just read the directions in the pamphlet or on the garage opening motor [which I did].

3 steps
1. Press and HOLD the open button on the remote
2. Press and RELEASE the purple button [I forgot what they called it]
3. Release the remote button ONCE the garage openers’ LIGHT comes on.

Make sure you reprogram the old remotes at the same time so they all work on the same code, frequency, or what-not.
